Traveling in Romania during the winter is not complicated, because Romania’s climate is not extremely troublesome, but if you’re coming from somewhere with lots of sun and not too much snow, Romania is different and you should take heed of this article.

1. Bucharest can get crowded in the morning

First off, no matter the season, Bucharest in the morning is quite troublesome for cars. People are going to their jobs, getting their children to school - and this great influx of cars causes huge queues and traffic jams on a daily basis.

If you are planning to visit Bucharest by car, try to skip the morning. Go there after 10-11 AM, and you’ll avoid the traffic.

2. The winter is not that harsh

If you’re expecting hard snows and blizzards, well, Romania is not that country. Yes, extreme conditions do happen to arise. Renting a car from VIA will provide you with the best tires for the weather conditions, so you won’t have to worry about that.

When you’re packing for your trip, make sure you get some warm clothes, but don’t exaggerate - it’s not the North Pole. Bucharest and the whole Southern region of Romania are warm zones, so if you’re not going to the mountains, you should be fine with the usual winter jacket.

3. Check Romania’s law about Winter Tyres

If you’re traveling with your own car in Bucharest during the winter, you should take care of Romania’s law about winter tyres.

Right now, you’re required to place them on your car whenever there is snow, ice or extreme conditions, but a few years ago, there were several months when those tires were required, no matter the weather conditions.

VIA’s cars come fully equipped, so you won’t have to worry about it.

4. Watch out for parking lots in Bucharest

If you plan to park in Bucharest, make sure you plan ahead. Even though it’s a big city, it has the exact same problem as any other European capital - parking spots. You can search online for different options before you travel to your desired spaces.

5. Make the most of it and leave the city

If you have a car with you in Romania, why don’t you make the most out of it and leave the city? Romania has some beautiful landscapes, the mountainside is stunning and roads like Transalpina are awesome to drive.

Rent a car from Via and visit Romania during the winter, without having the stress of extra miles or other problems that can arise.
